Insects, a class of hexapod invertebrates, have a chitinous exoskeleton, a 3-part body (head, thorax and abdomen), 3 pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes and 1 pair of antennae. It is believed that there are between 5 and 10 million different insect species, although only 1 million have been described so far.
It is estimated that insects account for three-quarters of all animal species. Insects species are broken down in orders, including mainly the following: Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera and Diptera.
